Will the Parent Coach meet with me or my child?
Parent therapists meet with parents and caregivers. The purpose of using a parent coaching model is to equip parents with new skills and to strengthen the relationship with their child. This is in contrast with a therapist or behaviour interventionist working with the child. Parent-coaching will empower and support you in understanding your child’s behavior and knowing what to do to move forward. Intervention sessions are focused on working with the parent to engage in problem-solving and learning new skills rather than direct therapy with the child.
What will I be doing in a Parent Coaching session?
With your Parent Coach, you will identify challenges, set goals, develop practical solutions and learn strategies to navigate difficult situations more effectively. Your coach won’t tell you how to parent. Instead, they’ll listen with empathy as you describe your journey. And with their observations and insights, you can make the best parenting choices for your entire family.
