Bullying is a behavior where one person or a group repeatedly and intentionally harms, intimidates, or mistreats someone else. It can take different forms, physical, verbal, social and cyber (internet or social media). Bullying can affect anyone, but certain groups of people may be more vulnerable to it due to various factors, and can be experienced in schools, workplaces, communities, within families and relationships. People of all ages are at risk of experiencing bullying.
Therapy can be a powerful tool in addressing the effects of bullying, both for those who have been bullied and for those who have engaged in bullying behavior. Therapy can offer:
We offer individual psychotherapy sessions where we use a trauma-centred approach. This is done with compassion, care, and deep listening to the individuals’ experience of bullying. We engage in psychoeducation, to better understand the impact of bullying on the nervous system and socio-emotional well being. Clients are taught coping strategies to deal with their emotions and triggers, as well as self-esteem enhancement strategies to reclaim their sense of worth and confidence.
