Anxiety is a natural response to stress or perceived danger — it’s your body’s way of staying alert and ready. But when anxiety becomes constant, overwhelming, or out of proportion to the situation, it can interfere with daily life. People with anxiety may experience excessive worry, racing thoughts, physical tension, or panic attacks. It’s one of the most common mental health challenges, but also one of the most treatable with the right support and strategies.
Sleeping issues (insomnia)
Loss of interest in activities that you once enjoyed
Low concentration at work & school
Somatic/body symptoms-headaches, digestive issues, fatigue
Irritability, low tolerance
Relationship stressors
Avoidance of situations that trigger memories or experience
Anxiety can significantly impact a person’s daily life, often causing feelings of fear, worry, and unease. It may make it difficult to focus on tasks, affecting work, school, or personal relationships. Social situations can become overwhelming, leading to avoidance or isolation. Physical symptoms like a racing heart, dizziness, or fatigue can further drain energy and hinder daily activities. Over time, the constant pressure of anxiety can erode self-confidence and hinder a person’s ability to enjoy life.
IFS psychotherapy and Parent Coaching creates connections between the now and then-exploring how past experiences shape our ways of coping with anxiety, and creating a space of openness to learning new ways that serve us now. You will learn about yourself and have opportunities to practice and integrate new approaches that will increase your self-awareness, relationships and readiness to take on new challenges.
We offer individual psychotherapy sessions where we use a trauma-centred approach. This is done with compassion, care, and deep listening to the individuals’ experiences. We engage in psychoeducation, to better understand the impact of anxiety on the nervous system and socio-emotional well being. Clients are taught coping strategies to deal with their emotions and triggers, as well as self-esteem enhancement strategies to reclaim their sense of worth and confidence.
Using IFS allows the individual to see themselves and their anxiety through the perspective of it being a part of them, not their whole being. Externalizing anxiety as a part, can allow the individual to better understand and get to know their anxiety, through awareness of symptoms, behaviours, thoughts and beliefs that it holds. IFS allows for compassion, gentleness and care to flow towards oneself, and an opportunity to process and understand the underlying causes and factors contributing to depression. Diving deep into underlying factors such as unresolved past issues and unconscious thoughts can support a person with alleviating the intensity of depression once depression is unburdened of factors that are contributing to the sadness.
Using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for anxiety can also yield positive results, as the protocols address the negative thought patterns associated with the emotional and cognitive symptoms of depression. This is done through identifying negative thought patterns, challenging negative thought beliefs, strategies to help break cycle of inactivity and low mood, problem-solving strategies to help manage challenges more effectively and coping strategies to help cope with emotions such as stress, anxiety and sadness.
