What is Insomnia

Insomnia is a sleep disorder where a person has difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up too early and not being able to get back to sleep.  Experiencing waking up unrested, having daytime fatigue, as well as mood disturbances, cognitive difficulties, and sleep onset anxiety.

How can we help with Insomnia

In therapeutic sessions we discuss lifestyle changes and strategies.  We use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia which is an evidence-based approach that helps people with insomnia by targeting the thoughts, behaviors, and sleep patterns that contribute to sleep problems.  We use the IFS (Internal Family Systems) therapy to focus on understanding and healing different “parts” of the self. It’s often used to help individuals manage emotional distress, trauma, and various mental health issues. In the context of insomnia, IFS can help by addressing underlying psychological and emotional factors that may be contributing to sleep disturbances.

What Is Our Approach To Insomnia Counseling

We can help by engaging in therapy techniques such as, Cognitive Restructuring, Sleep Restriction, Stimulus Control, Relaxation Techniques and Sleep Hygiene Education.  Clients also explore different parts of themselves to gain a deeper understanding as to the root causes of insomnia This is a personalized approach, which is tailored to a person’s specific struggles with sleep, making it a customized and targeted treatment, rather than a one-size-fits-all solution.

Iridescent Vista Counselling Services was founded by Onika Haywood and Monika Parsons, two experienced and passionate mental health professionals dedicated to supporting healing and growth through a trauma-informed lens. With decades of combined experience, they offer counselling and psychotherapy for individuals of all ages, as well as consultation and training for agencies seeking to enhance their trauma-informed practices. Onika brings over 25 years in Children’s Mental Health, specializing in staff development, team supervision, and clinical leadership with a focus on therapeutic use of self. Monika, trained in a range of evidence-based modalities, supports both clients and professionals with a focus on inner healing, self-awareness, and nervous system regulation. Together, they provide a safe, collaborative space for individuals and teams to deepen their understanding, foster resilience, and move toward meaningful change.

How to Get Started

  1. Book a Complimentary Consultation:
    Reach out via email or use our online self-booking system to schedule a 15-20 minute consultation. This session gives us the opportunity to meet, discuss your needs, and determine if we are a good fit for working together.
  2. Receive a Welcome Letter:
    After booking, you'll receive a Welcome Letter via email. This will introduce our practice and outline what you can expect when working with us.
  3. Complete the Intake and Service Agreement Forms:
    If you'd like to move forward with therapy, you'll need to fill out an Intake Form and a Service Agreement Form. Please complete these forms and return them before your first session.
  4. Book Your Sessions:
    Once you’ve completed the necessary forms, you can book your sessions via email or our online booking system.
